Gary Thornton was left disappointed as the Dons let a half time lead slip to eventually draw 28-28 with London Skolars at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Dons had to settle for a point after leading 22-4 at the break, with Thornton left ruing a missed opportunity to climb the Kingstone Press League One ladder.

“We weren’t good enough in the second half, we conceded a lot of penalties and we’ve got to be much better than that,” he said.

“They got a lot of momentum, they ran hard in the middle of the field and were a big physical test for us, and they slowed the game down to their own pace.

“First half we did OK, we defended pretty well and took our chances in attack when they came along which was very pleasing but we fell apart after half time.”

The Dons looked to be in control early in the second half as Jason Tali grabbed his hat-trick try, and Thornton felt his side were good in attack throughout certain stages of the game.

“We scored off four out of five sets in the first half which makes the final result even more disappointing, we wanted to kick on in the second half but that didn’t happen,” he added.

“London are a good side with some real physicality in there, they had a good spell and made the most of it so credit to them for that.

“We couldn’t stem the flow in the second half, we were doing a lot of defending and in the end it proved to be too much for us.”
