PREVIEW | Welham believes in Dons

Liam Welham believes the Dons have the mental strength to turn their season around, after a difficult start to 2017.

After just three wins so far this season, the Dons sit seventh in Kingstone Press League One, but the centre believes they can still have a successful year in 2017.

“We’re all disappointed with ourselves that we haven’t been able to pick up more points, it’s difficult for us all to put our fingers on where it’s going wrong,” he said.

“We felt comfortable at half time against London, we tried to stay strong and approached the game positively but couldn’t match them in the second half.

“We’ve got games coming up which are must win games from our point of view, we need to start picking up points quickly.”

The Dons travel to face bottom club Hemel Stags this weekend and Welham believes it gives his side a chance of getting back to winning ways.

“Hemel are struggling this year, but if we don’t go into the game in the right mind-set then they could catch us out. We found that out against London,” he added.

“On paper it looks like the best possible game for us as they’re struggling, but I’m sure they’ll be desperate to get their first win of the season.

“These next two games are crucial, the Hemel game is a great chance for us to get back to winning ways, and everyone has a point to prove in terms of showing that they deserve to wear the shirt.”
