The Dons propelled themselves up to fourth in League One after a convincing victory away at bottom club Hemel Stags.

It was the home side who came close to opening the scores in the third minute but Marcus Elliot couldn’t quite gather close to the line.

Just a minute later and the Dons grabbed the first points of the afternoon through Jamaican international Ritchie Barnett, the winger benefitted from a fine break by Tom Carr before stretching out over the line.

The lead was extended in the 12th minute when Jason Tali broke the Stags defence and found captain Kyle Kesik who comfortably strolled over.

Carr converted his first points of the afternoon before adding a try of his own two minutes later, wriggling his way over from close range.

It looked like it was to be an onslaught for the Dons as they bagged their fourth try of the match in the 20th minute when Tali burst through a deflated Hemel defence.

The Stags’ spirits were lifted a few minutes later when Loose Forward Brett Whitehead opened up the Dons defence with a dummy and dived under the sticks.

Yet their good mood didn’t last long. With a strong wind behind him, Carr kicked the Dons into Hemel’s half from a penalty and three tackles later he crashed over from close range.

With a 20-point gap, the Dons appeared to take their foot off the gas a little as Hemel ran in two tries before half time.

Firstly, Reece Williams took advantage of a wicked bounce in the in-goal area before Wayne Jowett powered over to narrow the gap to just 8 points at half time.

After the break the Dons couldn’t have wished for a better start, when their kick-off bounced into touch for a scrum 10 metres from the try line.

The Dons took full advantage as Tali mopped up a low pass from Miller before storming his way through the Hemel defence for his second of the afternoon.

Ten minutes later, the Dons produced three quick-fire tries to put the game out of sight, firstly through Jordie Hedges then Sam Doherty took advantage of a fine grubber kick from Jack Miller before Barnett produced a superb finish out wide.

The winger almost grabbed his hat-trick moments later but was deemed to have strayed into touch.

The Dons put the icing on the cake 15 minutes from time when Zac Braham surged downfield before

sending Louis Sheriff over the line to take the Dons to the half century mark.

Hemel grabbed a consolation through Jonathan Burns with just over ten minutes to go but the Dons saw the game out for a comfortable victory.
