Pete Green was delighted as the Dons came from behind to seal a dramatic 30-26 win over Workington Town in Kingstone Press League One.

The victory was Green and Rhys Lovegrove’s third in a row since taking over temporary charge of the first team, and he believes the attitude and belief within the squad is what got them the two points.

“One of the things we lacked earlier on in the season is being able to grind out a game, sometimes you just have to roll your sleeves up and do it tough which we’ve done for the past three games,” he said.

“There was an element of luck involved, we hung in at times which is key and we showed great attitude with our try-line defence.

“It was a gamble not taking the two penalty points on offer but we decided to go for it as the lads were confident, fortunately it came up for us.”

Green, who has featured in each of the past three games, is looking to continue the Dons good form with games coming up against Barrow and Whitehaven in the month of June.

“We’ve spoken about challenging in this league and we need to carry this form on by putting in a good performance against Barrow and hopefully claiming another two points,” he added.

“We want to win every game, we’ll enjoy the win against Workington but we know there is still plenty to work on.

“It’s all well and good beating the teams towards the bottom end of the table but we need to be winning games against those around us as well.”
