REACTION | Horne frustrated with defeat

Richard Horne felt the Dons were punished for a slow start as they were beaten 20-10 by Newcastle Thunder at the Club Doncaster Sports Village.

They trailed 12-0 at half time and had given themselves too much to do before late tries from Richie Barnett and Tom Carr reduced the deficit, with Horne believing that errors in attack cost his side the most.

“We got opportunities where we could post some points, a couple of handling errors early on let us down and if we score there then the game could have been very different,” he said.

“We finished strongly as we did last week, that shows the fitness levels are good so it’s just a case of getting our structures right.

“I’m trying to push the players to play the shape that I want, we’ve got to get the right mentality and get on the front foot early on in games.”

The Dons face Oxford on Wednesday and Horne says the quick turn-around will come at a good time as they look to get back to winning ways.

“We can’t dwell on this defeat, we’ve got to move forward and look towards the game against Oxford on Wednesday,” he added.

“We’ll have a look at the squad and see who’s available as I’m sure there will be one or two knocks within the group so there will be players coming in without a doubt.

“We want to win every game as every two points at this stage of the season is crucial in terms of getting us to where we want to be at the end of the year.”
