As the Dons look to get back to winning ways against Oxford on Wednesday evening, head coach Richard Horne believes the past two games have been a learning curve for both himself and the players.

They go into the game on the back of defeats against Whitehaven and Newcastle Thunder respectively, and Horne says he is hopeful of putting in a strong performance at Featherstone Rovers’ L.D. Nutrition Stadium.

“We’re all still learning about each other, there is a lot to build on and our patience needs to be better when we have the ball in hand,” he said.

“We’ve been giving away too many penalties, it’s causing us problems as teams are gaining ground on us and we’re easing the pressure on them massively.

“The tries we have scored in  the past couple of games so our structures have been good at times it’s just about executing that a big more often.”

Horne is keen for the Dons to start quickly as they look to gain some ground on the teams above them in the Kingstone Press League One table.

“This is our game in hand so it’s important that we take advantage of that as it’s a crucial game for us, we want to be as close as possible to the play-off places ahead of the split,” he added.

“Our players need to be ready to go when called upon, it’s a big test to go Sunday and Wednesday so we’ll have a look at who is available.

“I’ve watched their game and know how they shape up and what sort of structures they have in place so we’ll see what we can do to counter that.”
