PREVIEW | Green expects tough test

8th July 2017

Pete Green is expecting a tough test as the Dons travel to Merthyr Tydfil to take on the South Wales Ironmen.

The 36-year-old who is now into his second spell with the Dons knows the quality that the Ironmen possess and reckons that the South Walians will be confident going into the game on Sunday.

“I am expecting a lot of enthusiasm from South Wales on Sunday, as they know the travelling will take it out of us a bit, so they are going to look to start fast and try and put us on the back foot,” he said.

“They will probably look at our results and they won’t be very impressed by us, we have been talking about promotion and I don’t think they’ll be overly worried about us and they’ll be confident.

“We have slipped up a few times this season against the likes of Newcastle and York, and no disrespect to them we should have won those games but we have to make sure that we get our house in order and get the right result.”

The fixture against the Ironmen will complete a demanding three games in seven days schedule and Green wants the side to make sure they manage their recovery properly.

“It does take it out of you of course it does, you don’t feel as fresh as you would do if you were to have seven days until your next game and all the lads have jobs, so it’s a been a hard week,” he said.

“You have to factor the traveling in and admit that it is going to be tough, but we have travelled to long away games before, we just have to make sure that we manage ourselves right.

“We played a relatively tough game against Oxford the other night, so it is all about how the lads look after themselves now."
