Richard Horne wants the Dons to focus on getting their own job done when they face Gloucestershire All Golds in the final game of the regular Kingstone Press League One season this weekend.

The Dons could finish fourth, fifth or sixth depending on results elsewhere but Horne says all they can do is try and pick up two points.

“Looking at the league table, nothing much changes wherever we finish so we just have to make sure we go into the 8s with plenty of confidence and playing some good rugby,” he said.

“We can only play what is in front of us and the boys have shown that they’re adapting to the way I want to play and we’ve scored some really good tries in the past couple of games.

“They’re all working hard as they want to impress and at times you can lose a bit of shape because of that, but I can’t fault the commitment and the effort that they’re putting in at the minute.”

After picking up maximum points in their past two league fixtures, the Dons go into the game in high spirits and Horne wants his squad to build on that momentum.

“We spoke half time of the game last week that we didn’t want a second half performance like the one against Oxford and the players did a great job to finish with 70 points,” he added.

“The All Golds will come at us with a lot of energy, they’ve got some experienced players within the squad but we’ve got to focus on ourselves and make sure we prepare right.

“This weekend gives me a chance to give some of the boys a go who haven’t had much of a run out, they’re looking to impress so that will only get the best out of them.”
