The Prince of Wales Stadium

The Dons gave head coach Richard Horne the perfect birthday present as they comfortably beat Gloucestershire All Golds – in the final game of the regular Kingstone Press League One campaign.

The visitors started off looking to press home their early pressure with both Charlie Martin and Sam Doherty going close before being denied by strong All Golds’ defence.

Ryan Wright then looked to be in after a quarter of an hour after a swift passage of play involving Jamie Thackray, however the play was brought back by the referee after a forward pass in the build-up.

As the rain started to fall both sides had to adapt to the conditions and it was the Dons who struck first after 26 minutes when Mark Castle collected a pass from Ryan Wright close to the line and crashed over. Jack Miller added the two for 0-6.

The Dons attacked again before half time in search of extending their lead, but couldn’t take advantage with Liam Welham coming close before losing the ball just short of the line.

HALF TIME | Gloucestershire All Golds 0–6 Doncaster RLFC

The Dons started the second half in fine style with a try two minutes after the restart, a repeat set on the All Golds line led to Feka Paleaaesina barging his way over the line to extend the lead. Miller added the two. 0-12.

A 40/20 from Miller then created good field position for the visitors, before the ball was moved out to the right where Sam Doherty was on hand to slide over. Miller made the score 0-18 with the successful touch-line conversion.

Doherty was soon in for his second in a similar move, the Dons had possession close to the line before the ball was worked out the back for the winger to touch down for his seventh try in his past three games. Miller once again added the two to put the Dons in control at 0-24.

The second half was completely one sided and the Dons were in again with 13 minutes left on the clock, an interception break from Hedges eventually resulted in full-back Reece Dean scoring the try close to the sticks.

The Dons’ right side was proving to be a huge asset and Brad England was the next man to profit, another flowing move found the back-rower in plenty of space and he went over in style. Miller added the two to put the Dons 0-36 in front.

Richard Horne’s side were keen to add more points to their tally and when Wright broke through the line he had Dean alongside him to take the score above 40 points for the second week in a row. Miller converted for 0-42.

The All Golds managed to pull a try back with just five minutes left on the clock. Mo Agoro touched down in the corner in what was the home side’s only attacking play of the second half.
