Richard Horne was delighted that the Dons were able to keep their winning run going after a 42-4 victory against Gloucestershire All Golds at the Prince of Wales Stadium.

38 second half points sealed the victory and Horne says his side showed good character to turn their first half pressure into scores after the break.

“I thought we did enough in the first half, but our skill-set probably let us down a little bit so the game could have been put to bed,” he said.

“The big focus at half time was getting our communication right and I think we did that in the second half and had a strong performance.

“We played on the front foot, they did a good job on us initially so we had to be patient and wait for the opportunities to come, which they did.”

After the Dons finished the regular Kingstone Press League One season in fifth position, Horne believes the good run of form they have been on in recent weeks will help them going in to the 8s.

“We want to take some momentum into the 8s, gaining a bit of confidence was important and we’ve got to raise the bar again now when we face the teams above us in the league,” he added.

“I came in and didn’t know a couple of the lads, so it was about seeing what they bring to the table and how we can use it between now until the end of the season.

“We’ve got a week off now which has probably come at a good time for us, we’ve got players who need a rest so we can charge them up and have a look at the videos and see where we can improve.”
