Reece Dean was pleased with the Dons defensive performance as they limited Gloucestershire All Golds to just one try in a 42-4 victory.

Dean scored two tries of his own in the second half at the Prince of Wales Stadium but was focusing more on the team’s overall display.

“The first half was a bit frustrating with the weather conditions making the ball wet so we had to stick to our game plan and we proved our worth after half time,” he said.

“I’m happy with the two tries but it was much more of a team effort, we were backing up well and the lads pressed home our advantage.

“The main thing in the game was our defence, they couldn’t out of their own halves which shows how good a job our middles did for us.”

The former Hull FC man has switched to full-back for the past few games and believes he has slotted in well at the back.

“I’ve played at full-back a lot under Richard in the academy at Hull FC, so it’s a position I know well but I’m happy to play anywhere as long as I’m contributing to the team,” he added.

“I have a bit more freedom to move around the field in that position, I can support play a bit more so it’s good to have that speaking role at the back.

“Coming in late in the season meant that I had to work quickly on building combinations up with the other lads but I think we’ve done well.”
