Richard Horne believes the Dons can take momentum into the game against Whitehaven, given the way they defended away at Barrow last week.

The Dons go into the game still looking for their first win in the Kingstone Press League One Super 8s but Horne feels they aren’t too far away from picking up a positive result.

“We’re going into the game taking a lot of positives from last week, we were very good defensively and handled their middle unit well,” he said.

“We’re not far away from getting it right, hopefully a positive result is around the corner for us and will come this week.

“A dry track suits the way we want to play, we’re hoping to get that this weekend which means we can play a more expansive style of rugby.”

Horne is expecting a tough physical challenge from a Whitehaven side who have only been beaten twice in the league this season.

“It’s another physical challenge for us, our middles are going to have to do a job on theirs and we need to be good in our execution and game management,” he added.

“They’ve got some big threats all over the park, it will be another close game and it will come down to whoever takes their chances.

“Both teams will be looking to get the first try, after the game earlier on in the season they will be worried about how strongly we finished that game.”
