PREVIEW | Castle set for Whitehaven test

12th August 2017

Mark Castle feels that a strong defensive performance will be key if the Dons are to overcome Whitehaven in the Kingstone Press League One Super 8s this weekend.

Whitehaven are the second of three games against Cumbrian sides in the space of three weeks and Castle is in no doubt that it will be another physical encounter.

“Our defence improved a lot last week, we did the scrappy things well and stuck to our game plan which almost saw us win the game,” he said.

“All the Cumbrian teams are big units down the middle, but we have some size in our pack as well so we’ll be looking to use that to our advantage.

“After last week we need a positive start against Whitehaven and if we can do that then we give ourselves a good chance of taking something from it.”

Castle has been in and out of the starting XIII this season but believes he still has a big part to play in the latter stages of the season.

“There is a lot of strength in depth within the squad now so it’s down to me to fight for my place in the team and try to get a good run,” he added.

“I’ve been in and out of the side but now I’ve come back in I’ve got to show Richard what I can do and how much of an impact I can have.

“At this stage of the season, every player needs to have that momentum of playing games as that when you’re performing at your best.”
