Richard Horne was impressed with his side's second-half performance in the 70-10 victory over Coventry Bears.

The win at the Keepmoat Stadium saw the Dons score 40 unanswered points after half-time to secure their first win of 2018.

Horne said: "We came in at half-time and I think the boys were disappointed in their performance. We were loose in the ruck and didn't deal with Coventry very well.

"We tightened up the defence and didn't concede any points in the second-half, we got there in the end and we're still building our understanding as a squad.

"I left our middles out there a bit longer than normal to get them through the barriers which they aren't used too, they've been a lot better so hopefully that will help them in the long run."

Horne believes the win over the Bears enabled his team to build their understanding in attack, and praised the work of half-back Liam Harris, who scored two tries on his competitive debut for the club.

He added: "It's about building combinations and learning how each other play both in attack and defence, that will benefit us going into the bigger games in the league.

"We brought Liam in to manage the game from the halves, you could see when we were in good positions he came up with some good decisions.

"He has to have an old head on young shoulders, game management is a key part of playing in such an important position, that comes with playing games over a lengthy period of time."

The Dons are back at the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend to take on Myton Warriors in the Challenge Cup third round. You can purchase tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at
