Richard Horne felt the Dons produced their best performance of the season so far in the 44-6 win over Whitehaven in Betfred League One.

The victory was the Dons' third in a row at the start of 2018, and the head coach saw plenty of positives against the Cumbrian outfit.

He said: "It was the most pleasing performance of the season so far, I thought our intent in everything we did was really good and we did a good job on them.

"We defended really well, there were times when we had to scramble and it looked as though Whitehaven were going to score, but we managed to come up with some solid defending.

"We have pride in protecting our try-line, the only try we let in was a real soft one and we need to stop conceding those sorts of scores, but I'm happy with the performance."

The Dons scored nine tries in the game at the Keepmoat Stadium, against a team who lost just four games throughout the 2017 league campaign.

Horne added: " I didn't think we were that great with the ball in hand when we got in good areas, we couldn't really get set but the times when we did we executed them really well and created things off the back of that.

"To put that many points on a physical team like Whitehaven is always pleasing, we wanted to play quick as we knew that could cause them a few problems.

"It will give us huge confidence, we spoke about this game at the start of the season and now we've set our standards we need to make sure we stick to them."
