PREVIEW | Spiers embracing York clash

28th March 2018

Russ Spiers has been impressed with the atmosphere at the Keepmoat Stadium so far this season, and is hoping that can continue when the Dons take on Yorkshire rivals York City Knights on Good Friday.

The Dons are unbeaten so far in 2018, and go up against a York place who currently sit in fourth position in Betfred League One.

He said: "The atmosphere has been really good and York have had some good crowds too, they will bring plenty of fans so it should be a really special day.

"It would be great if we could keep attracting more fans down to our home games, we're winning games at the moment so to be getting that support is key for us.

"Not many teams will go to Newcastle and win like we did, so if we can back it up on Good Friday and beat a good York side then it will help us massively."

Spiers is predicting a close encounter between the Dons and York, given the rivalry between the two clubs and how both sides have started the campaign.

He added: "It could be a drop-goal or a penalty that wins it, in these sorts of games you have to take your chances to post points, it will be tough for both sides.

"I would say York are probably our biggest rivals, Sheffield have probably moved away from that so given where we both are and the players who have played for both clubs we're all wanting a win.

"It will be high quality rugby as we're both good sides and if the weather is good then I think it will be a really fast game on a big pitch."

Tickets for our clash with York are available from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at

The first 100 children to arrive at the ground will be given free Easter eggs as part of our egg-stravaganza ahead of the game.
