The Dons were beaten for the first time in 2018 as York City Knights ran out 16-14 winners at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Richard Horne made three changes to his side, with Jason Tali, Jack Sanderson and Jack Downs all coming into the starting XIII.

The visitors started the stronger of the two sides, as an early penalty took them to within 10 metres of the Dons line. Good defence from Kyle Kesik stopped Adam Robinson in his tracks and forced an error from the York prop forward.

Both sides were down on numbers after 12 minutes when a scuffle broke out which involved a number of players from each side, the end result seeing yellow cards shown to Doncaster's Jordie Hedges, and York's Adam Robinson and Sam Scott.

With points hard to come to come by, York chose to go for goal when they were awarded a penalty just a few metres from the Dons line. Connor Robinson slotted the kick through the posts to put James Ford's side in front.

The Dons started to grow into the game once both sides were back to their full complement, and had the first try of the game when Sam Doherty broke down the right, and his kick was collected by Kieran Cross to go over.

The visitors responded just four minutes later to go back in front, some good work from Scott created some space for himself close to the line, and Ronan Dixon was on hand to take the pass and go over under the sticks and give York the lead at half-time.

HALF-TIME | Doncaster RLFC 6-8 York City Knights

The Dons levelled things up just five minutes after half-time, as they chose to go for goal from a penalty and Harris converted for 8-8.

Richard Horne's men almost went in front soon after, a slick move eventually saw the ball played out to Jack Sanderson on the left wing, he looked to be over in the corner but was dragged into touch by some good York defence.

Penalties were proving to be key in a cagey affair at the Keepmoat, and Robinson was again on hand to convert after the Dons were penalised for holding down.

York went in for their second try just before the hour-mark and Robinson was again at the heart of the action. The scrum-half ran at the Dons line and provided back-rower Will Jubb with the pass, he managed to just about keep hold of the ball in the process of touching it down.

The Dons pulled a try back with six minutes left on the clock, as a ball into the corner from Harris was plucked out of the air by Cameron Scott who did well to touch down. Harris converted but the home side couldn't find the late winner.
