Richard Horne was pleased with his side's efforts in the 16-14 defeat to York City Knights in Betfred League One.

The Dons were just edged out in a close game at the Keepmoat Stadium, and Horne felt his side gave everything on the day.

He said: "I can't fault their commitment and endeavour, but we just weren't quite good enough in the end to get a positive result and we'll learn from that.

"York handled the game better than us at times, and we just couldn't quite find a rhythm that could hurt them for sustained periods in the game.

"We will take what we can from the game and review it over the course of the next week or so, sometimes you can learn more from this type of game because you don't paper over anything."

Penalty goals proved to be the difference between the two sides after both teams scored two tries each over the course of the 80 minutes, but Horne had no complaints with how the game went.

He added: "We gave away too many penalties and the ones they got were the right decision so we can't have too many complaints there, we knew how the game would shape up given the rivalry between the two sides.

"That tension and edge is what you want in a local derby, we said before the game that we had to just play the game and I think both sides managed to do that for the most part."

The Dons return to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on North Wales Crusaders on Sunday April 8. You can purchase tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at
