Russ Spiers felt the Dons showed their class in the 50-6 win over Keighley Cougars in Betfred League One.

Spiers scored two tries in the victory at Cougar Park, and was pleased with the team’s display.

He said: “It was a good win for us, the game got a bit scrappy and we could have probably put more points on the board.

“It’s a rare occasion that I manage to get over the line but it felt good, it was from good play which created space for me.

“It makes it much harder being a man down and gives them an advantage, Keighley are a good team and can punish you.”

The win helped put the Dons two points clear in the race for third place, and Spiers says that was spoken about before the game.

He added: “Everyone knew before the game that Newcastle beat Workington so there was a big incentive for us to get the job done.

“All we have to do is keep winning and putting the pressure on and we’ll guarantee ourselves that third spot.

“The changing room is buzzing, the staff and everybody at the club are on a high and we have nothing to fear as we can beat anyone in this league.”

Dons 2019 season tickets are now on sale, and can be bought from
