Richard Horne was pleased with his side’s persistence as they overcame West Wales Raiders in the 1895 Cup first round.

The Dons ran in 12 tries at the Keepmoat Stadium, and he felt they took their chances when they came along.

He said: “Our first half lacked energy and it was a flat game, we gave ourselves a little bit to do with missing tackles and turning over the ball too easily.

“Second-half we did well and took some juice out of them, we created some chances and finished them well.

“They have improved a lot and have some big lads in their team, if anything they just lack a bit of finesse in breaking teams down.”

Winger Tom Halliday scored five tries in his first appearance for the club, and Horne was impressed with the debutant.

He added: “Tom took his tries really well and hopefully that will be good for his confidence, which will benefit us during his time here.

“They were opportunist tries where he picked up a couple of loose balls and had the pace to get himself over.”
