Sam Tomkins says he is looking forward to going up against the Dons for the first time in his career this weekend.

The England international is in his debut season with the Dragons, and believes Saturday’s game will be a big occasion for both sides.

He said: “There is obviously a fair bit of pressure on us this year being the holders, we want to keep the trophy in the south of France.

“We’re really looking forward to Doncaster coming over, it’s a team I’ve never played against before so it should be an exciting game.

“When I signed they hadn’t won the trophy so the challenge now is to be in the group of players that retain it.”

Although he hasn’t played against the Dons before, Tomkins has come up against head coach Richard Horne on a number of occasions in Super League.

He added: “I played against him many times and he was a smart player, I’m sure he will have taken that into his coaching career.

“I think former players tend to make the best coaches so we are expecting him to have Doncaster well drilled when they play us.”
