Steve McNamara is expecting the Dons to play with freedom when they face his Catalans Dragons side this weekend.

The Dons travel to the south of France for the Challenge Cup sixth round tie, and McNamara says he won’t take anything for granted.

He said: “It was a really special year for us last season, it started off facing York and Whitehaven so it’s great for the competition to have Doncaster coming across.

“Richard Horne will provide them with good coaching, and I know Carl Hall has worked hard over a number of years to turn them into a really strong club.

“In terms of watching their games we will thoroughly do our homework because these fixtures are potential banana skins and we won’t take them lightly.”

As current holders of the competition, the former Bradford and England head coach says they are focused on retaining their crown.

He added: “We’re defending the trophy and we know how special it was last year, the experiences we gained along the way were all worth it.

“We have players who know how to play in big games, the group struggled at the start of last season but came together really well and now we want to compete on both levels.”
