Rangi Chase was thankful for the opportunity to be back out on a rugby field after making his debut for the Dons against Whitehaven.

Chase marked his first appearance with a first-half try in the defeat at LD Nutrition Stadium, and says it has been a long time coming.

He said: "Personally it was great for me to be back out there, I’ve had a really good week and it was nice to be back out there doing what I love.

"It’s been a bit surreal and I’m glad I’ve got this opportunity, I made a bad mistake which I paid the price for but I think I can be proud of the way I’ve conducted myself after that.

"Training is good but there is nothing like a game, I was tired throughout but I loved being back in the mix."

With fans of the Dons and former club Castleford in attendance to watch the former Man of Steel, he says having his son there made it even more special.

He added: "My son came to watch me and the last time he saw me play he was still very young, so to score in front of him was an emotional moment.

"My body will be aching after the game but that is a feeling I have missed, you have to enjoy the sport and I’m grateful to be back.

"There were a lot of supporters here cheering me on which was nice to see, I really appreciate the fans coming to watch me and the boys."
