A late drop-goal from Matty Beharrell secured a valuable win for the Dons as they beat London Skolars 23-22 in Betfred League One.

Richard Horne was boosted by the return of Watson Boas, Brandon Douglas and Frankie Mariano, with the latter making his first appearance of the season.

The Dons got off to the perfect start and went in front after a break from Jordan Howden was finished off well by Beharrell for the first try of the afternoon.

They went further head when Sam Doherty got on the end of a cutout pass out wide and finished clinically in the corner.

With the quarter of the game gone the home side were in again, as prop forward Russ Spiers powered his way over from close range.

That sparked the Skolars into life and they had their first points when former Dons man Richard Wilkinson forced his way to the line against his old club.

They reduced the deficit further before the break, when centre Guy Armitage squeezed over on the right edge to leave the score at 16-12 at half-time.

Beharrell continued to threaten and had a hand in the Dons’ next try, as scooped up the bouncing ball and found half-back partner Rangi Chase who scored on his first appearance at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The visitors hit back though and found themselves level heading into the latter stages, as Armitage went over twice in the space of 10 minutes to complete his hat-trick.

The stage was set for a thrilling finale and Beharrell was the man to rise to the occasion, capping off a fine personal performance with a one-pointer three minutes from time.
