Richard Horne believes his side showed good character to beat London Skolars in Betfred League One.

The Dons earned a 23-22 victory after being pegged back level with a few minutes left on the clock, with Matty Beharrell kicking the all-important drop-goal.

Horne said: “We started the game really well and scored some nice tries, so that put us in a good position.

“Once we’d got in front we had a little spell in the first-half where the momentum swung in their favour and that meant we went in leading by four.

“It was obviously disappointed to be level late on but I thought we did well to get ourselves set for Matty to kick the drop-goal.”

With some key players returning from injury for the business end of the season, Horne says having competition for places is key.

He added: “It’s a big boost to have some boys coming back to compliment the squad we’ve had for the majority of the season.

“Players like Frankie Mariano and Brandon Douglas give us some size in the pack, and having Watson Boas coming off the bench made it difficult for London.”
