Dons welcomed b:friend to watch their victory over London Skolars in Betfred League One.

b:friend is a Doncaster-based charity which matches young people up with older people as it works to eliminate loneliness across the town. b:friend is the brainchild of Mike Niles who recently received funding to allow his charity to continue operating for the next few years.

As well as visiting socially isolated older neighbours for one hour per week, volunteer b:frienders also take their neighbours on days out. Club Doncaster has pledged to support this by offering b:friend tickets to Dons, Rovers and Belles matches.

On Sunday, many of the group enjoyed their first taste of rugby league and were left wanted more after watching Dons dramatic win over Skolars in the final minutes thanks to a Matty Beharrell drop goal.

Mike said: “What an amazing game to be at! It's fantastic that the Dons, and Club Doncaster, are supporting our older community members ability to access great sport in our town.

"When you spend such a large amount of your week alone in your home it's such a brilliant opportunity to be with other people cheering for your team. And what an exciting end to the match it was! Our befrienders and their older neighbours were buzzing as we left the stadium.”
