Sam Doherty says the Dons will work hard to show a response from the 40-14 defeat at Oldham in Betfred League One.

Richard Horne’s side were comfortably beaten at Vestacare Stadium, and Doherty believes there is a big couple of weeks of training coming up.

He said: “We prepared well but couldn’t do the job on the day, we’re disappointed that we couldn’t come here and get the win.

“We did too many little things wrong and on a pitch like that you can’t afford to be inviting pressure because they will punish you.

“The aim now will be to get back out on the training pitch and work as hard as we can to prepare for the next game.”

After scoring two tries in the game, Doherty tightened his grip as the club’s leading try-scorer in 2019.

He added: “It was nice to get a couple of tries and the ball seems to be falling to me at the minute which shows I was in the right position.

“The players I’ve got around me are performing and finding me, I’ve felt better in myself as well when I get close to the line.”
