Dons’ chief executive Carl Hall had his first public engagement as RFL vice-president last weekend, which ended with the Coral Challenge Cup final between St.Helens and Warrington Wolves on Saturday.

The day before the event, Carl was joined by members of staff from the RFL, as well as both head coaches and players from each team to lay a wreath at The Cenotaph war memorial in London.

On matchday, Carl was introduced to both sets of players on the Wembley turf ahead of the game, alongside HRH Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, RFL chief executive Ralph Rimmer, interim chairman Simon Johnson, president Tony Adams MBE and Coral head of sponsorship and events Adrian Osman.

Following the culmination of the final, Carl was in the Royal Box to hand over medals to match referee Robert Hicks and the rest of his officials, before staying behind to watch the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final between Sheffield Eagles and Widnes Vikings.

He said: “It was surreal and that sort of thing doesn’t happen to people like me, being at the Cenotaph was an honour for me to represent our club.

“The atmosphere at Wembley was incredible and to get the chance to walk out ahead of the game gave me an immense feeling of pride.

“Meeting Prince Harry was special and he knows a lot about the game, he was a genuine man and it was great to meet him.

“I thought Warrington deserved the win on the day and defended really well, and to be close by when they lifted the trophy was a good experience.

“The whole weekend was something I was privileged to be a part of, I never thought I would get the opportunity to do anything like that and it’s something I will always be grateful for.”
