Sam Smeaton says he has settled in well since starting pre-season training with the Dons.

The centre signed from Betfred Championship side Batley Bulldogs at the end of last season, and says the transition into the Dons dressing room was a seamless one.

He said: “Coming to a new club you still get nerves when you first start but I know quite a few of the lads and they made me feel welcome.

“When you’ve been around a while you get to know people even if you’ve never played together before you recognise faces.

“It’s about making sure we’re all familiar with each other because it’s a long year and we’ll need to pull together.”

As one of the more experienced players in the Dons squad, Smeaton is looking to lead by example throughout the winter months.

He added: “This time of the year is tough but it’s at this stage where the hard work being put in pays off once the season gets underway.

“It sets you up for the year ahead, you want to peak at the right time and the coaching staff know what they’re doing with all that.

“As you become more experienced you know what’s expected and how far you can push your body during pre-season.”
